FAQ’s
Can I use CONTRACTORS SOLVENT on my automobile to remove sap, asphalt, tar and adhesives?
YES. CONTRACTORS SOLVENT will not harm dry paint or clear-coat finishes. This product is an excellent wax remover so after removing asphalt, grease and tar, you may want to rewax your vehicle. To clean interior stains, use the instructions for carpeting and upholstery. CONTRACTORS SOLVENT may also be used on vinyl and non-tinted glass since tint is usually applied with adhesive. Be sure to wash CONTRACTORS SOLVENT off vinyl and rubber surfaces after use.
Can I use CONTRACTORS SOLVENT on dry paint?
Yes, even to remove wet oil-based paint and stain. YES. PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT will not harm dry paint or clear-coat finishes. Can I use PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT™ to remove protective paper adhesive to clear acrylic plexiglass? +
Yes, it will remove most protective paper adhesives from hard surfaces including clear acrylic plexiglass. This said, there are actually different grades of plexiglass, some of which can degrade quicker with moisture or environmental influence, including adhesives, so PLEASE TEST IN AN INCONSPICUOUS AREA FIRST before applying in volume.
The quickest and simplest way to test is spray or wipe Pro Contractors’ Solvent on a small area and wipe off. Then apply a small amount of water to rinse the surface and dry with a non-abrasive cloth. If in 5-10 minutes there is no sign of degradation ie. “cloudy or smoked” plastic then this surface should be fine.
Please note that, by itself and unlike abrasive cloths, Pro Contractors’ Solvent WILL NOT ETCH PLASTIC as it is non-abrasive, non-corrosive and will not harm most water tolerant surfaces including dry paint, clear coats and glass.
Can I use CONTRACTORS SOLVENT on heated surfaces such as engines, equipment and power tools? +
YES, just make sure the surface is off and cool before applying, and be sure to rinse PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT off completely before reheating the surface.
Can I use PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT on porous hard surfaces such as concrete, unsealed stone and similar decorative rock? +
Typically YES, however, the more porous the hard surface is, the more additional soap and water rinses may be required. Oils, tar, greases, asphalts and other oily challenges can deeply penetrate even hard porous surfaces making them very difficult to remove. Especially those with tiny cracks and crevices. This is largely due to extra lift necessary to fully counter these highly absorbant materials.
While PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT is exceptional at removing these spills from most surfaces, including porous, caution should be used with extra-porous surfaces such as decorative stones, unsealed tile and brick.
For EXTRA porous hard surfaces such as these, first apply PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT in an inconspicuous area using the techniques below. Measure this success before applying PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT on a greater scale.
Because PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT contains no water, only 100% active ingredients including very light essential oils, it is also an excellent penetrant, dissolving oils and tougher greasy spills in tiny cracks and crevices. However, it too must be completely rinsed and removed after completing its task.
Generally, a soap and water rinse is sufficient to fully rinse PRO CONTRACTORS SOLVENT out of the porous surface after it has successfully removed the stain. (On non-porous and lightly-porous surfaces, only water is usually required as a rinse.)
In some cases where the hard surface is extra absorbant and porous, it may be necessary to follow multiple soap and water rinses with a hearty degreasing wash from Pro De-Solv-it® Cleaner Degreaser or Simple Green®. These products will help lift any remaining oils from the extra-porous surface.
Applying water (preferably warm or steamed) with as much force as possible through a garden hose sprayer or a high pressure sprayer (with ample PSI) will also aid removing any remaining oils.
